Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
46 years
What is your primary product or service?
Chiropractic adjustments that are done by hand and with a gentle instrument, depending on the person's needs.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was in pre-med at Rutgers when my father, after years of health issues (heart problems, glaucoma, diabetes-all side effects from the drugs he was taking), couldn't walk one day. His doctor told me that I should "face the truth" that my father had maybe 6 months left to live and that nothing else could be done. Someone in a health food store told me he should see a chiropractor. I didn't know what a chiropractor was... it was the '60's and this was still pretty new then. The chiropractor we took him to was on the second floor and the steps were on the outside of the building. My brother and I carried him under his arms up those stairs. The chiropractor took x-rays and then gave him a spinal adjustment. He got off of the table by himself! Then he walked up and down those steps on his own! THAT'S when I knew that I wanted to be part of something that heals! My dad lived another 10 years and eventually got off of all his medications. He lived a healthy life until the after effects of an auto accident eventually took his life. I am grateful to have found chiropractic at a young age.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We specialize in a healthy lifestyle and ongoing wellness. We only adjust the spine. Our practice members are usually in and out within 20-30 minutes. We have an extremely friendly home/office. My wife, Joy, cooks up something from our organic garden on Monday nights and our practice members know each other as well as welcoming any new faces. Remember the show, "Cheers" where everybody knows your name? That's what you get at Brown Chiropractic (but instead of servings drinks, we serve up health!).
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Just one location. It's a home/office and has been that way since 1970.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We're east of the 5-point intersection where Shore Road, Tilton Road, and Mill Road intersect. Go one-tenth of a mile toward the Margate Bridge and on the left, you'll see a rainbow sign, underneath says Brown Chiropractic.
What type of payments do you accept?
Credit cards, checks, cash. We have very affordable plans for those whose insurance deductibles are extremely high and for those with no insurance coverage. Ask us about the PCD (Preferred Chiropractic Doctor) program.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings from 3:30pm - 7pm. Also Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:30am - 12 Noon.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That someone didn't have to go through surgery or that they are healthier and can play with their grandchildren on the floor now.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"You never know how something you may think, say, or do will affect the lives of millions tomorrow." B.J. Palmer (son of the founder and promoter of Chiropractic)
